Arts, Science, and Cultural Program Goals
In collaboration with WLE teachers and staff, the PTA has established the following goals for the arts, science, and cultural programs. The PTA Vice President of Programs oversees the programs, with assistance from committee chairs for each program. Click here to Consider volunteering!
National Reflections Program
Goals:
1. Student participation in the program will be voluntary.
2. The PTA will strive to achieve a minimum of 10% participation in the program each year.
3. Parents will be informed of National Reflections guidelines, participation criteria, and submission deadlines.
4. In accordance with National Reflections guidelines, students will be expected to conduct the vast majority of the work on their submissions.
5. Judging will be fair, with every effort made to hide each student’s identity on his/her submission.
6. Special recognition will be given to students who make outstanding submissions.

Science Fair Program
This year’s science fair is slated for February 12, 2015! Mark your calendars and start planning! Participation is open for all students!
Goals:
1. Student participation in the program will be voluntary.
2. The PTA will strive to achieve a minimum of 15% participation in the program each year.
3. Parents and students will be well-informed about project expectations, judging criteria, and deadlines.
4. Projects will require students to integrate skills and concepts from across the curriculum, in writing, math, and science (including the scientific method).
5. Students will be expected to conduct the majority of the work on their projects.
6. High parent involvement will be expected and encouraged.
7. Judging will be fair, with every effort made to hide each student’s identity on his/her project.
8. Special recognition will be given to students who conduct outstanding projects.
9. Teachers will have the opportunity to do class group projects. The participation goal for K-2 teachers is 75%.

Cultural Arts Program
Goals:
1. Participation in the program will be available to all students in all tracks.
2. Cultural programs or performances will expand students’ horizons and stretch their understanding of the world by learning about cultures or perspectives that may be unfamiliar to them.
3. Where possible, the PTA will select cultural programs that align with the curriculum.
